National Competition for Innovative New Businesses in Ireland

AIB JumpStart 2013 Launches Today!

The LINC’s (Learning and Innovation Centre) at the Institute of Technology Blanchardstown (ITB) is delighted to launch its annual entrepreneurial competition ‘AIB JumpStart 2013’.  Originally launched in 2009, AIB JumpStart gives Irish entrepreneurs a unique opportunity to win a very real JUMP START to their business with a prize worth €25,000.

Launched at the dylan Hotel today by an impressive panel of judges including one of Ireland’s best known and liked entrepreneurs, Bobby Kerr; highly recognised businesswomen, Louise Phelan, VP, Global Operations EMEA, PayPal; John Farragher, Regional Manager, Business Banking, Allied Irish Bank, Oisin Geoghegan, CEO Fingal County Enterprise Board and Declan Lyons, Technology Infrastructure Programme Manager, Enterprise Ireland.  The final six shortlisted entrants will get the unique opportunity to present to this panel of judges with one coming out the winner of AIB JumpStart 2013. 

Judge, Bobby Kerr said of the competition, “It’s always exciting to see the entries for AIB JumpStart. What stands out the most to me is drive, energy and enthusiasm of the business owner, as well as a good idea of course”. 

Louise Phelan, VP, Global Operations EMEA, PayPal said of the competition, “I am delighted to be part of the AIB JumpStart competition for 2013. I believe supporting our local entrepreneurs are vital to developing our economy. The first year for any business can be seen as the hardest so they financial support and guidance the winner will received will be invaluable”  

The prize for the winning company worth €25,000 will include: A seed capital prize of €2,500
  • An incubation space of 23sqm for twelve months 
  • Included in this space will be desks and chairs for two people
  • Electricity and heating bills for their office covered for one year
  • Free wireless access within the building and their office 
  • Free use of the boardroom for meetings and events during the year
  • €7,500 worth of mentoring
  • An ‘Integration Support Package’ from PayPal 
  • Brand identity and design business start-up package from KR Management & Design
  • Design and build of a brochure style website for the business
  • Half day SEO consultation with Superior Internet Marketing
  • Half day social media consultation, supplied by Razorcoast
  • Public Relation services for one full day from Aspire PR
  • Meeting with Enterprise Ireland to identify options for Enterprise Ireland support.
Interested applicants must meet set criteria:
  • The business must be technology or knowledge based – competitive advantage could be due to the existence of intellectual property.
  • There is an intent to export if they are not already exporting
  • The business plan includes substantial growth strengthening the economic impact of the business within the region
  • The applicant must be in business for less than two years

Assumpta Harvey, Manager, the LINC, Institute of Technology Blanchardstown said of the competition “We are delighted to launch AIB JumpStart 2013. The support the winning start-up will receive from this competition will support them during that critical early stage. Research by UK Business Incubation has found that business incubators have an average success rate of 98% of businesses succeeding whilst in the business incubator (compared to a national average of less than 30% of all small and medium sized companies registered) and 87% surviving after 5 years.”

“Previous winners have expanded their business in to the US and secured critical funding for developing the business.  We look forward to working with the AIB JumpStart 2013 winner”, she continued.

Application forms can be downloaded from www.thelinc.ie/AIBJumpStart with a closing date for applications of close at 4pm on Thursday 24th of October with the short list being announced on Friday 1st November.  All applicants must submit a fully complete application form and agree to the terms and conditions terms and of the LINC and declare that all information submitted is correct and true. The winner of the award will be announced the evening of the final judging on 14th November 2013.
